Mara Liner services offer travel to Desaru four times a day from the Larkin Bus Terminal in Johor Bahru to Bandar Penawar through Kota Tinggi. The one-way fare will cost you around RM20. From there you can take a cab to Desaru. Since the opening of the new bridge, travelling time has been decreased with about one hour and the average trip to Desaru is 1-1.5 hours.

You can also take a non-express bus from Larkin Bus Terminal Jalan Wong Ah Fook to Kota Tinggi’s bus terminal and from there another bus to Bandar Penawar. Take a cab from Bandar Penawar to Desaru. The advantages of travelling by bus to Desaru are that it is cheaper to get there and this mode of transport is safe. Ferries are another popular mode of travel to Desaru.
